What makes Southwest Basketball different from other youth sports leagues?

We firmly believe we have an environment that is conducive to children learning the fundamentals of basketball, teamwork, sportsmanship, sharing, what is good healthy competition all while having FUN! with a realistic approach.

We understand these life skills transcend basketball. This is another reason we do our very best to instill these skills, and more, into every player who plays in our leagues and other programs. Your child will learn a lot and have Fun!! Our youth basketball league is a great experience for both parents and child.


How many games in the season?

8 game season with a tournament at the of the season.

Is there a fee for the spectators?

No, not for the regular season games. There will be a fee for the tournament.

Can you bring an entire team?

Yes, 8 minimum and 10 maximum. Coach must submit team roster/protected players before skills assessment/draft.

Where are games, practices and camps held.

When and where is registration?

Southwest Basketball now offers online registration (  or  in person registration every sunday 3pm  to  4pm at Christine duncan Academy(1900 Atrisco way NW  87120) and  You can alway call MJ at 505-710-7005.

Are concessions available during games?

Yes!  Water   Gatorade   Cokes   Pickles  chips  and cookies

I just registered my child for the program, now what?

Someone will contact you 4 or 5 days before the program starts.

When does practice start?

Practice will start on the first day. Each team will have at least one practice per week (30 to 40 minutes before the game starts,on occasion your coach will have a practice during the week).

When is the first game?

The first game will start the second weekend. the first day is a meet and greet,pick teams,give schedule to each player,give out uniforms and orientation.

What makes SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL JR NBA different from the other youth leagues in New Mexico

 Marvin Johnson is the owner and director of Southwest Basketball. He is involved in the planning and operation of all programs .He is very hands on. all of our staff  has coached and play at a very high level and have been trained and vetted by MJ. Your  child will have an EXCELLENT BASKETBALL EXPERIENCE WITH US.

All our programs are thought through, age and skill level appropriate.

When does the player get their jersey?

The players will get their jersey on the first day. Ideally wear black or white shorts or black&white shorts.

How long will the program run?

The program runs for 8 to 9 weeks with a tournament at the end.

Is there ever more than one game in a weekend?

Yes, occasionally in season and during the tournament Also there might be a week night game.

Is there an entry fee for the tournament?

Children: 1.50

Adults: 2.50
